What's with AV and WalMart?

Walmart on most serps first page

Ok, for about 95% of all searches I perform on Altavista, WalMart is now coming up on the first page. Not in the Overture results, but in the regular serps. I've never seen them there before. Anyone else see this?

Can't see an examples of this. Can you include a few key words that bring up the results.

Really posting a url to altavista. I know that dropping urls in posts is against the TOS but major search engines? I guess I've been hanging in back in the WW Support Forum too long.

keywords they would be specifics that would lead people to thier site or their competitors site.

lots and lots of keywords are bringing up WalMart in the top 10 serps. Definitely not 95% of searches, but a lot of them now. It seems to be any keywords that are in the title or description of any book that WalMart sells.

try looking up any kind of hobby or any kind of musical instrument.

You are absolutely right.

I tried VIOLIN and guess what,
the late Sam's company was there,
right under the "sponsored" listing.

I did not know that WM sold violins,
imagine that!

I wonder if WalMart greased some palms to get there, or if their SEO skills did it?

Look a bit closer. For all the searches I tried with musical instruments and hobbies the results are all for books -- and I didn't include 'book' in the search.

Through in a few world event terms, names of presidents, etc. Same results, buy books online at Walmart.

Looks like Walmart might be making a stealth run at the online book business.

i have noticed the same thing in the web results for msn. dealtime, shopping, ebay, walmart.....
it may not be for the same search terms that many of you are talking about, but i would be curious to hear from anyone that wants to try those same terms on msn and look at the web results.
