When your sites are ranking...

...and you don't know why

I know this doesn't sound like much of a problem, but it is. I have a ton of sites ranking in Ink, even for very very competitive terms, and I have no clue HOW!

I'm trying to prepare for the switch to Yahoo and wanting to understand better. However, the rankings make no sense to me.

Any ideas about what to do in this situation?
In the past I wouldn't have worried, but I think it's time to figure it out.

I also noticed that some of my pages are ranking very high in Ink. For example, "widget" finds me at #3 of 1834, and for "ACME widget" I'm at #12 of 1259.

For the widget search, some of the sites below me have higher title tag keyword density. Also, one site below me has more keyword repetition in the body (not spam, just repetition). The two listings above me are from the same site, which is quite a bit more popular than mine.

Maybe meta tags are involved?
