Inktomi sneaking up on google

The Inktomi bot is extremely active and MSN refers are steadly increasing over google. Our Goohoo refers have been declining last few months, granted we lost afew high power anchor text links in the past 3 months, along with Google's new algo, but MSN refers are on the rise! We are lovin' the increasing ranks. We have never done well with Inktomi in the past but looks like times are a chang'n! We can't wait for Yahoo make the Inktomi switch. MSN refers are now catching up to yahoo/google on our sites. Does anyone else see this trend?

Yep gone from 50 to 2000 plus pages included in inktomi and now seeing a nice increase in traffic from all of the MSN's

Same here.

I have been waiting for 3 months for Google to add some dynamic pages on a PR 5 site. To my amazement, Inktomi have picked them up nicely and is about to knock off Google as my top referrer.

How do you find out how many of your pages have been added to inktome and where? msn? inktome.coooom?

Same here, but for us MSN has been gradually increasing their proportion of SE referrals for at least 12 months, maybe 18. No "spurt" in last few months relatively. Delivering around 20 to 25% of what google pure does now for the past 9 months, and 40% to 50% of yahoogle/yahoo together.

That said they are not just biting into google referrals as a percentage. Many others like AV, ATW, Teoma, yahoogle etc, have also gone down as a percentage relatively.

You can see which pages are included in Inktomi by searching "domain:www.yoursite.com" at Pure Search [search.positiontech.com]

Thanks for the link, coconutz. But I checked that MSN shows more pages than the link you provided. Any idea why its like that?

On the side, I have noticed a definite increase in inktomi bot over the last month, but its nowhere close to googlebot so far.

Sorry for the me too post but, me too!

Ink have about 85% of the pages that Google has on our site. This has all been taken in the last few weeks.

I tried to start a thread ages ago about on page factors that are important to Ink but no-one took the bait.

Anyone here who is an Ink expert now prepared to do a little thread on optimising for Ink/MSN?

yeah but I don't feel worthy to start the thread. One thing I have noticed. Ink seems to place a lot of importance on link text, but not in the normal way.

I have a few instances when site-1 links to site-2 with the term "blue widgets". Turns out site 1 ranks higher for the term and the link is the only thing on the page that mention' blue widgets. Page-2 has the keyword in the title, header, meta description and is in the Ink index.

I noticed this while looking at the logs.

Go figure.

Imaster, I have the same problem, but try to click the adult filter on, even if your site dos not have any adult things, it helped here, but there is still missing about 50%
