Hello,

I was just wondering if it is worth paying to be included into Inktomi. I have just launched my website, submitted it to a few search engines but the site is getting no hits as we are waiting for the spiders to come. Should I pay to at least start getting some hits in? If we do pay should we pay for just the index page or the other 'main' pages of the site. I don't really want to do PPC.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to get hits into a new site while waiting for spiders?

ya paying for inktomi can provide some good traffic - but it all depends how competitive the keywords you are targeting are.

If they are really competitive your listings will be buried under looksmart listings. You may be number 1 for your term but have 2 pages of looksmart above you.

Go to msn and check out your keywords - if they don't have many "directory" sites above the "web pages" then it might be worth it.

Of course if you wait long enough you will get picked up for free.

If you want quick guarenteed traffic I'm not sure what options you have besides PPC.

The first web page in msn.co.uk for the term is 230 - all the rest are from the directory.....When I search for the keyword how is it ranked within the directory? Is it like google or is it done differently?

If you have a new site, i am guessing you wont have many links with other sites, if any.
The problem is just this, most search engines nowadays (besides DMOZ which is a human edited directory). Require you to prove yourself by having links with sites like yours.
Once you do this, you become more relevant and only then will you be able to get traffic on search engines.

First thing i would do if i was you is go plan your linking strategy , look for some other posts on here on how to do it.

Its not some very easy to start off with , it takes a reallly long time, so be patient
