Inktomi "fresh" results?

Probably an ignorant question/observation, but... I'm spidered very frequently by Inktomi; free inclusion - I don't PFI. Every couple of days I rank really, really high for my keywords, and traffic from MSN, for instance, skyrockets. I check MSN and Positiontech, and I'm in the top 5 for this or that keyword or phrase that day. Then, two days later, I'm down between 30 and 50 for the same KW or phrase, then a week later it repeats. Been going on for a long while. Is this the result of "freshbot-like" activity, or something else?

I've noticed they drop pages without warning, and that even while watching the results via the 'pure search' at Position Tech, you can f5 your way to different, rotating results.

As far as I know, they simply randomize them...which, imho, makes for a terrible surfing experience.

Though perhaps if you pay $$$, you get stable spots in the SERP's?

I'm currently using paid inclusion and our page rank for certain keywords fluxuates at random.

HI panic - just fyi, Google is the *only* search engine that uses PageRank - a trademarked term for the algorithm that was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page & Sergey Brin.

Inktomi - now owned by Yahoo, utilizes link popularity, & on page factors to sort web pages - and naturally, uses the link map of the web as well.

Unless you meant the 'rank for your pages' fluctuates? Yes, that is correct - I have no idea why, other than to confuse people who are not paying per click, perhaps, as that is the largest potential revenue stream for their index.
