This is my first post. I have read much information regarding Paid for Inclusion. I have two SEO's preaching an opposite message and I was hoping someone could help clarify what is right... Will Inktomi stop spidering pages they already spider... if I start paying for other pages to be included?
I really appreciate your help. This is really bothering me.
The debate:
SEO 1:
"Inktomi" is an American-Indian word, which means "spider". Inktomi itself has a spider called "slurp". Slurp doesn't do anything with any site, until you submit to them. Once you submit, you will get on "Slurp"'s schedule :)
Inktomi works on page by page model. It means, you submit home page, slurp will spider home page only. That's why Inktomi offers submitting of more pages with the same URL.
So, don't believe everything you hear :)))
SEO 2's Response:
"Slurp doesn't do anything with any site, until you submit to them" -is complete and utter nonsense.
Slurp crawls the web and finds sites through links, just like Google does. Right now they are fighting for their life and trying to build their up their database again, so they are crawling aggressively and adding sites.
There is a LOT of documented evidence to support what i am saying, and i have seen it happen many times with my own eyes. For instance, every one of my pages are in there, and i haven't paid them a dime in two years. That did not happen until i STOPPED paying them. When my Inktomi account was active i only one page in there that i paid for.
Be careful. A lot of these "search engine experts" give advice, but they are like the blind leading the blind.

So which advice should I take? Does Inktomi stop spidering your site once you submit for Paid for Inclusion?
Thanks!

is VERY true....
but I still PAY for everything just in case.

The advantage of paid inclusion is that you get spidered every 48 hours, so you can easily make changes to your page and see the effect on your ranking almost in real time.
The disadvantage is that many people believe that IF you pay Ink only indexes the pages you pay for, while otherwise it will index your whole site. Since I have never paid I cannot comment on the accuracy or otherwise of that statement.

Good advice! Also applies to this (or any other) forum. It takes some time to know whose advice is good :) and whose is less so :( .
That's how they got me so for sure it's true. I think they got the site from dmoz. They spider most of the site taking probably 10 - 14 days a round.
