One of my sites was updated the day before yesterday, and is now refeshed every 48 hours.
You might try using their free "submit your site" page. Also, check to make sure that they have indexed pages which link to your site. The site submit can take up to six weeks, but it does seem to work. Being well-linked will keep you in their index.

I just noticed they finally revamped their search results page! The page 1, 2, 3, etc links are a lot easier to see - they took away the block of ads that prevented surfers from seeing them.
Perhaps this will help 'em.
After I checked, I noticed that only the home page of a site that's been in DMOZ is listed there - and it's been fully indexed in Inktomi, as well as Google.
AV needs to figure out how to crawl links if they want to build up their searchable database. Just including the index page from a site in DMOZ doesn't give me confidence that they will build things up...
Surprisingly, I just checked my main site logs and 39(!) hits from Altavista this month. This site tends to get about several hundred unique visitors a day. My other site with 100 unique visitors a day has got 6 hits from AV this month. Someone surprised me to see this. I do have very good Altavista SERPs. However, this site has SERPs about as good in Google, and killer MSN SERPs because it is Looksmart. Thus this high number can't be explained by Altavista being the only search engine I do well in.
