I have had great results with Google after a redesign but have found my position with MSN/Inktomi slip considerably after initial success. What would the major differences be between Google success and MSN failure? Any threads adress this or any thoughts?

Hello,

After fairly good results with ink ( about 15% referrals), three weeks ago that figure dropped like a rock to less than 1%. Keyword serches that produced results in the top 10 are now no longer to be found. I have made no changes other than updating content in the last few months.. Any ideas what happened?

I do not know, but for me Inktomi results look more and more like Google's.

The difference being Inktomi has only half of my pages indexed.

On one of my keywords searched, I went from results in the top 10 to 156 of 156 results. Most of all the results above me have little or nothing to do with the subject of the search. Also, my keyword is in the title of the page.

Does meta content need to be refreshed on a regular bases to keep Ink happy?

Me too. It may just be that he has managed to do something that Google likes but Ink doesn't.

Ink just started picking up some junk orphaned pages, I didn't even realize were still out there and they are ranking better than the "real thing".

Pages are flying in and out of Ink's index ...

Ever since the "free" side of Inktomi took off, a lot of "free" listings will produce good results then disappear from the index, only to come back again....

kwburke, you didn't specify if your URL's that had good rankings are "free" listings or PIF.. If they are "free" listings, wait and watch to see if they cycle back into the index.
