which one?

alltheweb/fast, altavista, or teoma?

If you had to choose which paid inclusion to take a gamble on for several listings would you go for alltheweb/fast, altavista, or teoma? Which has the biggest "bang" for your buck?

I would have a tough time breaking those down, now that Overture owns av and alltheweb.

I've had good results with Inktomi on lower competition phrases. I would definatly do it again.

yea, the ratio on some bulk inclsion programs with Ink, ASK, FAST, and AV has been around 100, 10, 7, and 5 referrals respectively

I have seen the best traffic from one of our partners coming from MSN, but do not know how he got his listings there... INK?

Although it wasn't in your list, I'd side with Inktomi without hesitation at this time. Referrers via their paid listings have eclipsed those from other PFIs we've used.

Next in line would be Teoma - not necessarily for traffic, as it hasn't been a great referrer yet, but because it's my personal favourite and could easily do well in the future. Certainly not the most scientific or businesslike approach to take when deciding where to spend your cash though!

I am a .com in the uk and have been in the Ink program thru PT for 2 days now, I have seen a nice steady trickle of hits from them. (MSN)

I have submitted two URL's , one page each. It seems to be going ok.

Here is our experience of PFI in order of preference:

INKTOMI

FAST (ATW)

ALTAVISTA

TEOMA (ASK)

If I were starting again, I would not bother
with AV and TEOMA, as they had given few vistors
and they are the least flexible (you cannot change
your URL once it has been indexed)

Robert..........to get into MSN is best done thru Looksmart for paid inclusion.

The Beta version of MSN has now gone live and the results are impressively displayed with OVER serving PFP and LOOK serving the PFI results.

INKT provides backfill.......at this point in time.

Actually, I'd go with Zeal which is free. No need to pay anybody.

Do NOT pay LookSmart, despite what the Jillibert says ( Jillibert, for one reason or another, seems a bit TOO 'pro looksmart')

Also, if you get into the ODP - you will end up in INK with NO need to pay them, either.

But if you *must pay* and it's the US market, I'd stick with INK, best value in PFI bar non.

The 48 hour refreshes are very nice, though.

We were in INK before, via ODP, but have done much better since paying. Our traffic from INK has effectively tripled.

I have just finished a new site which is in my opinion brilliant. I want to get it posted on one of the PFI, PPC and PFP programs but have minimum funds and was just wondering what you guys would do. I gather from this thread that INK would be the best of them all, but suggestions and alternatives more than welcome

Hi Skylo,

If your funds are limited then I would avoid PPC as there are no long term benefits from this service (only good for short term hits till your site has been indexed a few times and is listed in the SE's) and it can kill the wallet :( money better spent getting results further down the line...

PFI as suggested Ink first and my personal second would be TEOMA I think we are going to see a lot more from this SE very soon ;) *remember* this will not bring hits overnight :( but in the long term should serve well :)

Thanks alternative future, if you or anyone else had a choice then what would your top 2 SE's for PPC, PFI and PFP be based on your first hand experiences with them. And also why do you sense that Teoma is going to happen/explode?

PPC would have to be either Overture or Google in order of personal pref, & of course LookSmart (to keep some happy:) Pay For Performance (PFP) Options.
PFI see above answers same question!

Teoma is new and seems to be making a harder inpact... plus it returns good results in ask.com askjeeves.com and all regional sites i.e. *.co.uk

Would you agree that maybe it would not be a bad idea to spend on Fast as who knows what their future might be now that Overture holds the cards? We may be looking at the first sound competition to Google
