Looksmart - I just don't get it.

Results have no rhythm

I started with Looksmart about 4 months ago experimenting with one product/url. Initially, I was very happy. I advertise a financial product and results were great. Some of the best return on my advertising dollar I had seen.

I worked with one particular editor that was great. He tweaked and truly worked with my offer. Interstingly, the offer I promoted is not a site I own, but an affiliate type offer I set a page up for. If the same offer had gone through another editor there (there is one particular that rejects almost everything) this same affiliate offer would never have gotten approved.

Guess I am getting off track but I am just SO FRUSTRATED with their editing staff. My promotions are all high end and very clean. They seem to be turning away business. I understand them wanting to keep their engine clean but we are talking about paying for sponsored products. I wonder if the owners truly know what the editors are doing there?

Ok back to the reason I posted.... Results, I just do not get it. I have 10 offers posted with Looksmart and I spend almost $3000 US a month with them. Still there is no rhythm to their results. The first month (about 3-4 months ago) I was elated with results. Now I get 25% of original results. Yesterday out of the blue I get a huge spike. The same thing happened last week. I do not get it at all.

I see a lot of crtiticism of Looksmart and have kept quiet but now I wonder what is going on.

-Is their main source of traffic MSN?
-If yes, is there another reliable avenue to consistantly get that traffic than Looksmart?

Maybe the holidays played a part. I noticed that all of the searches on the internet we down during the holidays and just started getting back up to their previous numbers.

We see large fluctuations and often can't attribute the reported traffic to any particular source in the small biz listings. (Using HitBox or other script based tracking tools)
