Is Altavista getting desperate?

I got a piece of spam from them today.

With a subject:

AltaVista Keyword Advertising, WIDGETS and related keywords are ava ilable

Where WIDGETS would be one of the keywords I used for ppc listings at adwords and overture.

Could be. Their market share is down...they need a compelling reason to bring back their traffic and not more marketing spin.

I think they just don't get it -> without people that are into the engine, for the information found there you won't get enough of a user base to make the advertising worth while.

They need rebranding, and repositioning. Altavista.

The name resonates with many of us here...we probably used it, once upon a time.

It's sad, what that great brand has become...they need spin -> about something real.

How long are we going to wait until they deliver? Or will they go out of business first?
