Haven't come across any mention of the BOW database in ages, was it all a myth to begin with or has it been amalgamated into the standard DB?

Secondly, the Best of the Web index has gone away as a separate database. Now that we've rearchitected, we don't need a separate database of frequently-crawled content. Everything is frequently-crawled content :-)

It was one of my 'secret' weapons - known by few and understood by even less!

It is no longer there - but I still see some lingering after effects. Sites that were in BOW still are up in the top rankings - but then, the reasons for that are probably what put them in BOW originally. However, new sites can definately beat what were previously untouchable BOW results.
