Hmm...Inktomi is sloppy to. They just lost one of my sites.

Checking the pure search, I noticed one of my 2 sites inexplicably vanished from Inktomi. Grr... I'll still get most of the MSN traffic on a search of just the important single keyword for it because it is in Zeal, but it is disappointing to see Inktomi just drop it.

I've had around 75 to 100 pages (from various sites) disappear for some reason too over the last 2 or 3 weeks - some very strange disappearances they are too (eg index pages of directories not showing on searches but sub-pages within those directories are there).

Some disappearances are in sites where I have a paid inclusion page (that page is still there) and some where I have no paid inclusion. Before this I had been thinking of paying for inclusion for an existing large(ish) site which has about 50% of its pages in ink (was about 85% a few weeks ago) but this has put me off as it gives me a feeling of instability in the ink index and I don't want to add one page from the site and risk losing the existing pages that are left in (not sure if it would be a risk but the instability and already lost pages has scared me off).

Yeah, what a mess. Both of my sites, #1 and #3 for their respective keywords, are buried so deep, I can only find them by typing in their URL. I was pleased with Inktomi, only using them for several months, but am now confused about their latest SERP...

What I mean is, only 1 site of the top 10 actually contain the keyword in MSN. Not only is that not good for me, but I feel sorry for the end user. The results are not relevant. Does anyone have any insight or wisdom to share?

futuresky,

I don't blame you...I will not spend another dime towards Inktomi unless this mess gets resolved...their results need to be relevant.

Have you seen this happen in the past with Inktomi?

I haven't noticed anything like this before but haven't really studied Inktomi in any great depth before this situation. As far as I've noticed up till now my sites have had pages added in each inktomi update, but this mass dropping of pages I've never noticed. Just want to mention btw that I don't employ any spamming tactics so I can't see that this could be any reason behind the problem.

Digging through my log files, I saw my PFI Ink traffic switching from redirect-west to redirect-east a couple of weeks ago. Then, on about Oct 23, it switched back to redirect-west and that was about the time a bunch of free pages got dropped from their index.

Anyone know what the redirect-east switch was all about?
