I am developing a site for a domain I recently purchased and now that it is online (3 days) I'm getting many referrals from msn. In fact it is ranked #3 for my best keyword in a fairly competitive search. There has been no site for about four months but my godaddy coming soon page sure looks pretty in the thumbnails. Is there some way to find out what kind of program the previous owner was in without tipping off looksmart or whomever that it is a new site and owner.

Is it just MSN, or is it on all the sites fed by Inktomi? (see their page)

Also, check your logs, are you being slurped about every 48 hours? That (I think) would indicate someone bought a year's inclusion from Ink. (Corrections requested)

Do an "inktomi pure search". This will tell you how many pages are indexed by inktomi. To find the url just search google.

Lots from the msn folks, search.msn, msngroups, etc, one from hotbot, 4 from zeal, 3 from dogpile, 1 from looksmart.
Its been hit once from slurp but its only been up three days so I can't tell if its every 48 hrs yet.

Powdork, I could tell you if the site was somehow in the Looksmart database if I knew the URL and search term in question. The mods don't like posting such here, so use the stickymail feature of this board, or the e-mail in my profile, and I can tell you. If it isn't that, it is probably Inktomi.

I think it may be ink. Now that several days have gone by he/she (not familiar with this spider) seems to be arriving every 48 hours. Any ideas how to find out whats up with the account if this is the case.
