Well since the whole yahoo drop out I am looking for new markets to invest in. What is the general opion for Altavista? does it get much traffic?

Does anyone know what criteria the algo is based on? Any thoughts on what works or doesn't work for this se would greatly be apprieciated.

Thanx

Lately, a lot of members have said that they got *great results* using the plain old submit, no need to pay.

The bit of reviews I've read (dig through this forum for some of them) basically say that for the cost (six months, I believe for whatever price you pay) it's just not worth it.

Add to that the claims (which people have debunked, even AV said the sales person got out of hand) that their XML program gives a boost in ranking, it might not make any sense to give them money *unless you're looking at their XML based CPC program*.

Of course, experiences may vary...but personally the regular submit seems to do well for me. I haven't paid them a dime, and I don't plan on paying.

Great thanx for the advice. But how long did it take you to start showing up in the database? I can't really afford to wait 6 months.

Recently, I've seen them spider (in the last month or two) sites which the domain was bought, but the site was not live.

And then started getting referrals in less than a week after site launch.

Their db refresh rate has been pretty amazing on some stuff, far better than I've seen in a while...hope that helps!

The good news is that I got included for free and they have most (say 75%) of my pages.

The bad news is that they typically account for around 2% or less of my search engine referrals.

I've had great success in getting pages indexed for free.

Traffic will be low but the conversion ratios are great.

That is great to hear jeremy goodrich. Did you submit those urls or did it just pic you up on its own?

The good news I am in a big ticket industry where 1 or 2 sales can make my month.

AV picked up the pages on their own in the cases I can recall.
