MSN different inktomi results entirely?

I've noticed on a couple of msn.com searches that the inktomi results (web pages) are totally different to those on positiontech pure inktomi search for the same search term.

Not just slightly jigged about, or even some filtering, but totally differnet results for at least the first 50 results.

Anyone else experienced this? any ideas why?

msn.co.uk seems to be fine.

I have seen this a couple of times in the last couple of months. I think msn.com is getting an extremely fresh ink database. PT seems to not update as frequent as msn.

Hi, The results are very different between MSN and Inktomi Pure Search. I'm hoping the MSN results won't stick as they appear to be filled with spam entries. Almost none of the 10 results that used to appear on a particular search are appearing in the new MSN results.

Looks to me like all the .co.uk domains have vanished!

This had better be a temporary glitch!

My pages, including Inktomi paid for inclusion, have plummted on MSN.COM today. These are all .com sites. All was ok until around 8.00 am to 9.00 am this morning, then visitors from MSN have dried up to nothing.

Worse case, has been position 4 or so for months, now listed at position 85 as of today. None of the pages that were listed on the first SERPS page are any more, they are buried pages down.

It's the same for all my sites. Different subject matters, some linked to each other, some not.

Very worrying, will MSN revert to as before, when Inktomi re-spiders the paid for inclusion pages will they go back to where they were, I hope so.

A call to PT says to wait 48 hrs. until next refresh. If situation continues look for a bridge without high fences on the sides.

I would be interested to know if anyone here is seeing normal activity from MSN/Inktomi today. Is there anyone that is NOT having an issue with Ink today - PFI or free inclusion.

Is there something big going on at MSN/Inktomi?
Some sites are seeing a sudden big changes in their Inktomi traffic.

Is everybody seeing this?

Or, are some people still seeing normal traffic from MSN/Inktomi?

A surge of traffic from MSN today.
About 20% of traffic which is not usually the case
Definately smiling here:):)

jimbo: is that traffic from inktomi listings? Or looksmart or something?

If inktomi is being removed from msn or something, you would expect a jump in traffic from other sources.

definitely weird. traffic plummeted across several sites. what is going on with MSN?. it has been pretty erratic, of late!

Nell, who is PT, do they have insider info.

I've chosen my bridge, just got to wait for low tide after the next refresh.

If Inktomi are in trouble, does anyone have any idea what the future holds. Are the likes of MSN likely to go elsewhere for the search results, or is that what has already happened, gulp.

PT are positiontech, one of the Inktomi partners.

It seems that PT are saying it is just a glitch and that the results be as normal on the next 48hr update.

We are probably not the only ones hoping so.
This is not a good time for Inktomi to be looking foolish.

are you watching, Yahoo? :)

Thanks 4eyes, I'll sleep a lot easier now.

Did the fault lie with Inktomi or MSN. With the rumours going around about Yahoo and Inktomi partnering, it made me think, if that happened, then would that mean it would be possible to appear on Yahoo within 48 hours using Inktomi paid inclusion, if so, I quite like the sound of that. I will admit to being a fan of the Inktomi 48 hour refresh.

Thanks for the information. My new site has had great luck with MSN earlier this year (top 6 for search term). High rankings at MSN have been great for sales. In late summer we dropped to #25 and today we are nowhere to be found on MSN...help! Traffic is off by about 30%. Thanks in advance for any info.

This major shift of MSN results started about a week ago:

Checked my logs for my new site. Nada from INK/MSN. Checked MSN - I'm invisible.

Sorry, that's 8.00 am gmt.

But..... by 9.00 gmt the pages have slid back down again, well, most of them, but not all. Instead of going from around 4th to 189 as in the case of one page yesterday, it's dropped to 33rd. That's typical at the moment, they started where they had been for months, then dropped down about 30 positions but not as severe as yesterday.

Having said that, one page which was around position 7, is still at position 7 so hasn't been effected......yet.

It's almost as if it built the index as it used to be, then added a load more pages at the top, but not as many today as yesterday.

Can't get my head around what's going on.

Well mine dropped from #1 or #2 for six months to #35 over a week ago, and it is still there. :(

OK, 2.00 pm gmt, and all pages are back where they should be, I just hope it stays that way. Well, apart from one page which has been ejected to the second results page due to a sudden influx of directories, but guess that would have happened anyway.

I can go back to anticipating the google dance now.

Well Axacta, I really do hope it returns to the top for you soon. It's not nice seeing pages you've work hard at being pushed down the index.
