don't be suprised if you experience a blackout period of a couple of months..
Our PFI expired on 9/22, and the page was dropped from the index yesterday, and is back in Pure Search today. A mouseover shows no "redirect-west.inktomi.com" It has the LookSmart description from the PFI listing, but I'm not complaining.
I've had good luck using Goo [goo502.goo.ne.jp] to submit pages to Ink. They have been spidered within 24hrs of submitting them, and I think that they've been added within a week or so:
2002-10-05 16:36:15 202.212.5.36 - 80 GET /index.htm - 200 Mozilla/3.0+(Slurp.so/Goo;+slurp@inktomi.com;+http://www.inktomi.com/slurp.html)
What's up with Ink? Seems like they've been busy lately.
Yep, if you can find targeted terms that are not buried with Sponsored Listings and Web Directory Sites you will do well.
On a new site I have been working with I have 8 pages in Google, 4 paid inclusions in MSN and 4 overture keywords and a dmoz listing.
Taking out the 0's and rounding the numbers, here is the sales return . .
dmoz referrals $2 (higher than the norm - but whatever)
google referrals $3
msn referrals $8
overture referrals $3
Because of the cost of the products only 20% buy when they enter the site. So 80% of the purchases cannot be traced to the original referral.
I am waiting for google to update so the other 30 odd pages hit, but you can see msn can be a powerhouse for sales.
You just need to work the keywords that produce the most sales and make sure these are ALWAYS included and well positioned.
