As a previous customer of AV's express inclusion they were kind enough to inform us of a 15 day sale [altavista.com] on Express Inclusion. Now they spider more frequently than Inktomi (daily in fact!) and only charge about 40% more than Inktomi.

Better move soon, cause this deal ends August 15th. Thanks but no thanks.

OTOH maybe its a sign they are really working to upgrade their search technology to try to get back in the game.

It is annoying that the only way to really make any impact with AV is to buy one of their bulk packages. But then- who still uses AV here? Probably not to many people. I know it can still bring traffic but I can see Googles growth going up and theirs following the same path all the way down to 0.

I have been spidered by AV constantly for quite a few days now, but not signed up for any express inclusions, is this normal?

I've just launched a new site, Googlebot hasn't even found it yet while Scooter has indexed over 100 pages. This is also without paying AV, looks like they're definitely trying to clean up their act.

edit_g, I still use AltaVista. Don't get me wrong, Google is great, but there are still things AV can do that Google can't (mixing other syntaxes with the link: syntax, stemming, no limit on query word count, etc.)

Weve had scooter visiting a lot too. one new site 4 months old gets constantly spidered but has not appeared in AV at all up to now. So spidering is very different from indexing from where we sit.
