After seeing a huge increase from the core update, lots of pages dropped...

I'm stumped by this one.

I had ten's of thousands of pages in inktomi's database (not paid),
but with a slight misspelling of the domain name.
I owned both domain names (obviously), and so I put a
a 302 page redirect to point the misspelled domain name to the
correct one. The log files show slurp would
fetch the original page, and then fetch the new page due
to the redirect. Everything was fine for several months...
and the mid august core db update increased our
traffic from msn by 100%...
until almost all the pages suddently got dropped
from their core db on August 23rd.

Basic question: was I doing something wrong with a 302
redirect? Should i have used a 301? Searching for a
clue... did inktomi change the
rules/ranking w.r.t. how they treat redirect pages?

Thanks for any insights.

p.s. stick email domain is not this client.

I've also seen lots of deep pages (thousands) dropped from the index on several sites in the past few days. I paid to include my homepage and it still remains in the index but is buried in the SERPs. I have several sites that this has happened to lately. Does anyone have any theories ???

I could confirm about sites almost vanishing almost all pages. May be Inktomi realized that they cannot afford the ire of paid customers. So, they may have dropped a ton of FREE pages going back or worse to where they were before Inktomo appeared on this forum...
