What's the deal with this se. Does anyone use it? I like how it has me indexed, but who really uses it.. Doesn't it use some tech. like Google or something.

It was made to compete with google. They use different techonolgy but copied the clean simple interface. It's for people that don't want the full portal experience. It hasn't caught on yet, and I have doubts if it will ever be a hit with the mainstream.

I like it, my guess is that it is used most by webmasters and others in the know at the moment.

I thought raging was just AV without the ads. I just ran a search on both and it sure looks identical to me.

I also thought it was being developed for the low bandwidth wireless market.

I always use it and love it.

With AV apparently abandoning their portal strategy, it may become largely redundant. Hopefully, AV's plans will be clearer a few months down the road.

Same here. I switched from AV (text) to Raging within a day or two after it was announced.

There was (is?) a slight difference in the database. I've had sites that change position slightly between the two. If Raging is going to die, I hope they just keep the interface and point it to the AV database.

Algos weren't always the same. When it started Raging had 'show only one result from site' (clustering) on by default.

Yeah, I did go in and spend some time setting the preferences.

Well, you folks talked me into using it a bit more and I've temporarily switched my default from Altavista proper to Raging.

I just wish they could do something about the speed (the lack thereof).
