Hi All

What is Inktomi?
Yes I know ...it does seem a simple question yet I have little knowledge on it. I know it feeds results to Overture/Looksmart/ MSN/
Hotbot.
So is there a way to enlist your web site via Inktomi which will indirectly feed these other engines?

This is a definite help. I am compiling research on all the SE to see which are worth submittingto to be listed in their indexes or directories.
Everyone wants our money but is it worth it?--well Im going to find out

During the last 18 months I went from 0 to 600+ pages indexed by inktomi, without using any submit (save the first 5 pages submitted to hotbot).

I moved a site to a new domain in late March. I installed 301-redirects on the old domain and
updated the two listings in ODP, Yahoo! and AOL, and nothing else. After three months, everybody
except for AltaVista had indexed all of the pages.

Several years ago, the old domain got caught in some sort of defective spam sweep at AV and they
removed the site for awhile. I suspect the site is still on their "watch closely" list, and that's
why it is taking so long. Either that, or they handled the 301 redirect incorrectly... AV is the
only engine that still shows (old and dead) links to the old domain.

Inktomi was the last primary index to finish updating completely - it took them almost exactly 90
days. AV is spidering the site this week, so hopefully, they'll update, too.

Fast picked up the change after 4 days. Google picked it up after 30 days. Teoma got most of
it within 60 days, and Overture didn't get it at all until they took a new feed from Ink.

So, my observation is that you need to pay in proportion to how much time you want to wait to get
indexed, and how often you want each search engine to re-index your pages. If updating your pages
daily or weekly, then by all means go pay-for-play on those pages. If many of your pages are static,
there's no need - unless you can't wait a few months for full indexing.

Thanks for sharing your case which sheds mnore light on what I propose to do with all of these submissions.
I will need to pay for placement on all of them but I will choose the definitive ones. Inktomi + Looksmart + Teoma + FAST should do the trick.

you have the right address it's a Japanese search engine which i think shares the same database as inktomi or at least feeds it

It's strange how when a site is in a foreign language, then people worry about what buttons do. There are two buttons, one submits, one resets, you get it wrong, you try again. We all do it though, "Damn, what if I press the wrong button?" Button 1: Submit. Button 2: Destroy the entire internet and ruin it for everyone. oops
