If I search my sites in the ink database I can only find a % of my urls even if I enter the full url it doesnt show for some of them it says nothing is found? I have checked the traffic stats at positiontech.com and they said that there has been no traffic to the said urls for something between 4 and 12 days there is a total of about 12 urls missing out of 6 domains.

In the control panel at position tech it says they are included and they still show at msn, but there has been no recent traffic and I cant find them in the search.positiontech.com pure search database. Also according to my log files they are still being spidered anyone seen this before or got any ideas??

thanks

Are they duplicates of other pages?

In the keyword search that you would expect these lost pages to show up do you have any other page from the same domain showing?
Even though your pages are different you won't be allowed to "own" any one search term with a number of pages from the same domain showing in the results.

possibly further down the results other pages show up from the same domain however its not like I own the top 10 or anything near that, its not common in all the missing pages either. How often does msn update? cos all the so called missing pages in ink database still show in the relevant searches in msn? am I missing something?

thanks

Look at the pages in question. If there are many keywords in the keyword meta tag that are not mentioned in the body of the page it could dilute the ranking to oblivion in a competitive search category.

Don't try to cover too much ground with a single page in a competitive category. Focus on, say, 3-4 keywords/keyword phrases.

I've been experiencing the same problem with Inktomi. I created some pages to help promote the sale of a condo in the Bahamas. To my knowledge I didn't overuse keywords. Everything was working well and I didn't make any changes to his pages, but within the past couple of days, my listing has disappeared entirely. I was getting number one, two, etc., now I'm gone, gone, gone ...

What happened?

I wish I knew! Something major is afoot imho. Lot's of us are reporting the same yet there is nothing in common other than BOW urls totally out and PFI urls put to the bottom.

I have discounted an algo change by looking at what has stayed in. Same for a new spam trap.

My best guess is it is an update/dump of human reviewed sites they have banned.

I lost URL's that conformed to their TOS yet could have looked like spam yet didn't lose any that didn't conform to their TOS

There are 3 pages from one site, the index and 2 interior pages. One is the current and is fine. The second, a very small, simple page, is totally gone.

The index page has not been updated by them for WEEKS. It's showing the title and description from about a month ago, just before I made changes, which has been that long ago. I made the change prior to the last Google update, Ink isn't reflecting it at all.

We're finding short pages 2-3K dropping down to 7-10th place. When we replace them with larger 10-12K pages they go back up to the 1-3 position.

Marcia,

The `possible' reason why your changes may have not taken effect yet, could simply be because the site in question is listed in the BOW (Best of Web - or whatever it's called ). I've had several URL's/Sites that are "BOW", and take forever to update.

I'm not sure if this is the exact cause, but it's been my experience.

Jason,

Inktomi will only index 1 ( possibly 2 ) sites using the same URL/Keywords per listing ( I've also seen this with MSN and most other Ink partners ).

If you have 2 Web Pages (both point to www.whatever.com) that are somewhat related (even down to keywords) chances are it's going to pick the better one of the two. I've seen very few instances were Ink will actually list 2 URL's from the `EXACT' URL in the same search.
