Inktomi?

Does Inktomi spider your site with the submission of a single URL? I get the impression I must pay and submit each web page within my site...no spidering?

I have created a dynamic page that lists all the pages on my site. It is this page I submit to search engines. It is this page that I would like to submit to Inktomi to be spidered, but its not clear to me that this will be the result.

Has anyone used the service that can comment on this?

Your assumption is correct; they won't spider from your paid page. So you have to submit and pay for each page that you want to be included.

By the way, you might find reading the "Pay for Spidering Engines [webmasterworld.com]" forum helpful.

And also by the way, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

[inktomi.com...]
24.67.253.203 - - [11/Jul/2002:01:29:26 -0400] "GET /mydomain/and/a/couple_of_hundred/more.html HTTP/1.1" 200 8190

hmmm... never paid a dime!

As a matter of principle I don't submit to any search engines either, only DMOZ.org.

Not sure where the connection is, between the two but "slurp" comes all the time.

Certainly it's true, as fathom points out, that you might make it into Inktomi's database without paying. Eventually. And if you want to improve your shot at that, get into dmoz. And build lots of other incoming links from which their spider might arrive at your site. And have lots of patience, and realize it might never happen.

But the context of tesla's question makes it appear that he's asking whether a single paid page placed in Inktomi will result in the entire site being spidered... and it will not.

To clear a small point - Ink may spider your whole site or part of it without you paying. But, it is unlikely you will rank or even be included in any of their public databases...

In the big picture it's about your credit card with INK - and so many others.

Just my two cents.

I believe paying to be included in Inktomi's database is still one of the last great deals on the web. It might not be so after September though - Inktomi will lose AOL.

I've found that it is very easy to rank well on Ink, and I receive a huge amount of traffic from them.
