What I have done. . .

I have attempted to optimize my site for AV by doing the following:

1)changing my metas slighty so the key phrase appears twice in the description, and another word was added to the KW's.
2) Changed my ALT's a little. The header image's ALT is my key search phrase, hoping that will help.
3) Stressed the search phrase on my page, but also eliminated a few of the times I used to the two words so it doesn't appear to be spam.

Is this a good job, or am I lost?

oh ya, and I forgot to say that I have always just been submitted www.mydomain.com Today I submitted 4 other pages, cause they all link back to the main page, and they all link together, and that will slightly help my link popularity.

I am ranked #156 on the term that I am after, we'll see how I do.

That may be a touch overboard on the meta's. Once is enough to repeat your kw's right now. Just try to hit all the high notes (descrip,title,h1,bold,1 link text,url) just once with your kw. More than that and it pushes you down. Be laser focused on the kw or phrase and try not to work in to many side issues (eg: if your phrase is "sail boats", don't use "rudders" on the page, focus right on sail boats).

That can be hard to do on a pure base home page, but it is easy on side pages. I call them gateway pages, because they are real quality content, but designed to lead the user to the rest of the site.

I know there are so many people that get all stressed out thinking their root home page should be the highest ranked, but it has been three years since I have build anyones home page that ranked the highest on Alta out of their site.
