Anyone know anything about the LS algo? If i get a site in ,,how often do they spider it and what's the algo..link pop, page title, density?
Anyone familiar with this? Trying to avoid a wasted $300 to rank at #68.

Firstly I would check when the Ink listings start for your targetted phrase, it may be that you can do much better without L$.

There have been quite a few recent threads about L$/MSN, use the site search and dig about a bit.

I would start here [webmasterworld.com...]

I wish that were the case. I'm number one as far as ink goes but 1-20 on all my phrases are LS...so no choice but to pay the 300. I just dont know anything about their algo..If they are heavily weighted in link pop then I'll probably have to submit a few sites..uhhh...Is it similar to Ink's algo?

I was under the impression that LookSmart, being a directory, doesn't do much spidering.

You get stuck with whatever title & desc they write up, and that's that. If your keywords aren't in it, you're out of luck. But you can ask them to change it for $149, I hear they're pretty snappy about that.

They do have a program for submitting additional URLs in the same domain, but it's pricey.

yeah...there is no spidering involved with L$. My only advice for getting good rankings with them is to fill out the title and description with the keywords you want to use. They pretty much list it verbatim, be selective and do a little research you should be fine.

I have heard of cases where Looksmart changed what was submitted at times and people have had to pay down the road to have it modified. Also in certain cases now Ink is using ODP and LS titles and descriptions. Like NFFC says, do a search and check that out.

How many directory listings are there for the keyword phrase you want? Do they go far past the first page of results?
