Had anyone noticed lately that their positioning in AV has changed dramaticly lately? Some of our sites are no where to be found when prior they were found in the top 10. The URLs are still in AV just no relivent ranking.

Other sites occassionally change positioning a few slots but nothing as drastic as I am seeing.

Is it because they are switching databases that have us in there when we were first submitted? clue me in on this jump rope game.

I have been noticing more AV traffic recently but the level is so low in comparison with my majors that I don't really look at it.

This month... maybe it was actually January... I apparently didn't run a report last month... 90% of the search terms for one of my sites dropped out of the top 100. AltaVista has produced very little traffic for this site and others, so it doesn't concern me much.

Could be caused by their recent move from default OR to default AND. [researchbuzz.com]
"Extensive testing on our index over the past few months has shown that ANDing of the query terms provides users with better overall results"
Did not notice significant changes to my rankings though,
nor the SE traffic (about 1%).

EliteWeb...I had experienced the same thing as you.

My site was in the top 3 before last update and now is nowhere to be found.

My question is:

¿What shall we do now?

¿Could it be we have been penalised?

Thanks

Looks the the now famous AV Shuffle has taken place again. This time, fortunately for me, my site has regained ranking that it held a few months ago and thus I see increase in hits.

However you fared, trust that this too shall pass.

Yes, I noticed a increase of traffic about 80%, that sounds much but is only all in all 8% of Google-Traffic.
That happened on the 20th of february.

Does anybody know if altavista has a 20 position penalty?

Thank you

Strange things happened within the last two weeks:
only two days (the 20th and 21st of feb) there has been an increase of traffic due to a very good listing, we appeared on the first pages at many single-keyword-searches - but only for two days. Then the same buried lsitings again.
Now -since last wednesday, the 27th- we got the boost again, and it still works: about 300% more traffic.
now it´s worth to think about altavista again.

Hi EliteWeb,

For 2 sites I manage the rankings have disappeared. They are still in the index if I search on their name but that's about it.

One site has been # 1 and 2 for over 12 months and the other at # 6 and 7 for a few months.

I'm very puzzled and hoping it's just a glitch.
