Say I am looking after a massive ecommerce site, with 100,000's of products / product pages. SEO is obviously going to bet a big part of my marketing strategy.
Once the site has been consructed in a user and SE friendly way, I end up with a site of one index page, mutiple category and subcategory pages and mega amounts of product pages.
I obviously need SE's to find those pages. Now from my experience so far, I know that I can use Google to optimise the index / category and subcategory pages through the use of content (title and description etc), link pop and gateways (relevant, but different content hosted on separate URL's).
This will create my themed network down to the category level.
However, say my site is dynamic from the category point on, I start to come across issues in terms of ability for Google to pick up those subcategory pages and product pages.
So from this point I thought I had two options, I either invest in the production of amazonian-like technology to remove ?'s from my URL's (which Google will find so much more enjoyable, so long as all dynamic pages are still optimised), or I pay for index connect for all my product specific pages (ie so specific that they have very few Looksmart listings and therefore will be useful in MSN).
My connundrum is this:
Will Index Connect allow me to drive such specific traffic to product pages?
If so, I may as well use Index Connect on category and subcategory pages - but these pages may not be specific enough to make it profitable - so am I to leave these out of the equation?
However, if I've got the 'no ?' technology (ie hardcoding sofware, or something along those lines), both Inktomi and Google will pick up the product pages over the course of time (ie 6 months) won't they?

There is also a very high risk of garbage traffic (that you will pay for) because IC considers everything on your pages rather than offering the purchase of keywords and phrases.
Its also my understanding the PT or INK will spider your pages and recommend based on your needs...

I understand it is about 25 cents per click, so that has to fit within you conversion rates and margins, but is anyone using it regularly and finding it a useful source of traffic on very specific product pages?
I recognise your point on garbage traffic, but with product specific pages (ie one product), I would have thought that will massively reduce such problems.
My theory is to choose say, 1000 product pages for which I know my profit per visitor is over 25 cents per click already, and to put them into IC. I will carefully monitor them, and if they fall close to making a loss I will switch to alternative product pages.
Again, your thoughts and rantings would be appreciated!
