?? Is this how a 'doorway' page works?
How can I make sure it doesn't get indexed by google while still allowing it to be indexed by Inktomi? Does Ink ignore robot tags?
I'm presuming I can't leave my 'real' home page in the index? I will probably be putting a lot more text on the 'doorway' page (or is it a 'mirror' page?) so will that make it different enough to be submitted in addition to rather than instead of the 'real' home page?
Thanks for help.
If the site as a whole is optimized for Google, even though a page done for Ink is a little different, it won't interfere with anything.
I did 2 paid pages for a small site and they actually did better at Google. There was only one set of pages that served for both, but the density was geared to Ink. Not a problem. At first there werent even any meta tags, so Ink picked up the first text on the page.
One of the pages (#3 at Google, now #2) was #11 at AOL - not competitive. I didn't want to upset anything with Google, so since it was evident that Ink was using the meta description with other sites, I made an adjustment only in the meta tags and it moved up to #7 at AOL with a big rise in traffic. Then I left it alone.
Don't get fancy with another home or index page unless you intend to cloak. Simple will work; just use a higher density with Ink.

Unless you're delivering one page to one search engine and the mirror page to another search engine, it'll likely run into duplicate content.
I'd create an additional page and add it to the site. If your site now has 10 pages, add one and make it 11 pages. Just stay on topic, but say something different using whichever keywords interspersed that you want to target.
I can't think of a good way to have an extra page repeating the subject matter of my other pages.
However, I get the impression that Inktomi relies on link popularity, which my mirror page wouldn't have, so I don't know how well any mirror or extra page would do for the keyword 'maui vacation rentals'
Thanks for your thoughts.
If you're talking about Ink paid pages, it's not been my personal experience that links have anything to do with it. Pages in BOW are most likely different.

Do additional subject matter. Do a content page on what those vacation rentals are near - attractions, activities to do, how far away your facility is from beaches, surfing, tourist attractions - something of value to searchers that will have marketing value also. You're fine with MSN and Google on your target phrase, think AOL which in some cases converts better than Google traffic.
That page could include the words vacation and Maui plenty of times and can develop the topic more broadly, even including a couple of links to purely informational sites that would open in another window. Using the keywords in outbound link text doesn't count like for Google, but it does count toward the density, same as it does with internal navigation.
Name the page carefully, using a hyphenated HTML page name like maui-vacation.html or maui-vacations.html - or something else if you'll be going for a different keyphrase - whatever you're gearing it to. Ink seems to like keywords in the file path.
For example, an "info" page on a site has no keywords in page names or link text. Chances are it's not getting traffic so it could be renamed and developed a bit more with keywords interspersed. Plus a more meaningful phase used in the link text would be more attractive to visitors.
