From altavista.com(http://www.altavista.com/sites/search/listing_enhancements):
Logo: Create brand awareness and recognition by including your logo in your search results
Icon: Tell users what you do and what your Web site offers with a descriptive icon
Custom Tagline: Highlight important information with a tagline you can update at any time
Text Links: Drive traffic to the most important pages on your site using text links

Just pay for inclusion on each page,
and you too can include a 16x16 icon.

I guess i better get ready for thousands of extra clickthroughs a minute once i get an icon, because that's just going to make the visitor numbers jump for sure.

Isn't a 16 X 16 bitmapped icon used as favicon.ico. I wonder if a cunning searchengine would downloade these and then put them by the relevent serp.

It looks like av could even more cunning than that... Eeek

has anyone actually seen a search result with one of these enhanced listings? if so, can you post the example. i havent seen one yet (but i might be looking in the wrong place).

either they arent live yet, or i'm missing them, or no one's using them. which is it?

One downside is that you have to pay for inclusion of the page initially, and then pay again for any of the enhancements...

DONT BOTHER!
I signed up for this. We are in the UK and the results only show on uk.altavista.com

Yes the listing looks very pretty when you find it. And it plays on the addictive quality that you want to add an icon (oh it's only $20 or so, so go on then), Then a tagline (yeah why not!), I've had mine running six months or so, and the hits are barely into double figures.

Clever Idea, but not implemented well. Would be great if applied to Google for instance. But to summarise I would view it as a struggling search engine looking for ways to generate 'money for old rope', rather than helping the customer to generate more clicks.

If anyone has information to the contrary then I'd love to here from you.

My biggest regret is that the listing only seems to show up on uk.altavista.com
