Just got this by email from a lesser-known Ink partner:

The Inktomi Search/Submit program is about to undergo a price re-structure. The new prices will be effective as of the 28th November, 2001. The new prices will be...

First URL: $39.00
URLs 2-1000: $25.00 each

If you act now (before the 28th November), you will be able to take advantage of the current low pricing levels...

First URL: $30.00
URLs 2-20: $15.00 each
URLs 21-1000: $12.00 each

It's the first notice I've received, but doesn't address the domain-changing issue.

If Ink has been paid for a years service why should they not be obliged to provide it? This policy has nothing to do with spam but everything to do with providing the least service for the most money. Most e-commerce sites have a number of doorway sites feeding it. Pages are regularly shuffled around and cross-linked between them. This practice will not stop with those who can afford to pay. Again, another disadvantage for the small guy.
The only hope the small guy has is to control the domain as Steve points out. Any new client I get will, of course, pay for the Ink pages but in addition I'll spend the $7-8 to register a generic domain to load them on to. Every client will have a different numbered domain name such as:

www.765432.com

It would be dangerous to load every client on one generic domain in case it were banned. In fact, I'll even set up a different public e-mail address with that domain number to place my PT order with such as:

765432@yahoo.com

In fact, I may start doing this right now in blocks of 10 pages at the OLD price and RESELL them to my new clients as they come on board for the NEW price.

A better $$ return than the stock market.

Nell, I don't see anywhere where Ink says they are not going to provide the year's service for the amount originally paid.

As I read it, you get a year's service for the old rate for pages registered prior to the 27th and you also get a year's service for pages register on or after the 27th, but at the higher rate.

URLs may be freely substituted during the first 30 days of subscription. Substitutions thereafter will be limited to within the domain.

If during the year the domain becomes defunct, Ink stops providing the service as the domain cannot be replaced.

Hi all,

Not new to the forum, but new to posting.

Does anyone know if you renew a subscription it will be at the new price? When I look at my Order Summary, renewing after the 28th November 2001 still reflects the old prices? Otherwise shouldn't this summary indicate the new price structure so I know in advance?

Stricko - thanks for posting and welcome - the price reflected is the price you'll pay - new price does not happen until about the end of the month...
