Will Inktomi let me change my URL to one which just points to my website?

Our ranking on Inktomi is abysmal at the moment and I figured a keyword-laden URL would improve my chances.

Am I correct in understanding that I can do this free of charge if I do it
before Dec 17?

Namniboose, inktomi is basically a for profit engine now. If you want to rank you'll have to cough up some cash.

namniboose, for your main keyword there are 35 directory listings at MSN, so an Ink listing won't be on the first two pages anyway. But you are # 3 right at the top of the directory (for the singular) and # 2 for the plural. That's your main keyword phrase, and you can't do better.

I only checked two others, but you have a #1 Ink listing, top of first page (you're #3) and a #2 directory listing for another keyword.

You might want to brainstorm a little to come up with some more good keywords and make an additional interior content page and try another Ink page for that.

I know I'm doing well with MSN via Looksmart (best $200 ever spent!) but I can only seem to get into the 60's for inktomi listings on About.com, IWon and others.

I don't understand what you are referring to re the following paragraph (still MSN?):

I know MSN is the biggie but Inktomi results show up on a lot of other S.E.s too.

Well I decided to submit 4 other pages, optimized for less competitive but highly relevant keywords - thanks for putting my onto that Marcia.

As far as the other sites that use Ink, they each have a slightly different way of ranking and there's no way to satisfy them all. So if you're doing OK for a particular page with the one that has the potential for the most traffic, it's best to leave well enough alone.

Re: the other two - you're coming up for other search phrases also. That's a good thing, because people have all different ways of saying the same thing and use different terms. Having a few additional pages will broaden the scope of opportunity for reaching more.

As a side benefit, having a little more of a site, properly linked, won't hurt with Google, either.

Which keywords am I doing well with via Inktomi? I cannot find any good rankings from my Ink listing for my main page.
