I got into INK via free submit but the URL is buried unless I search by the URL -- the problem is that I wish to submit the same URL via payment.Do you all suggest that I submit the same URL for spidering?

Hi zechariah,

I am really not sure if we all sugest you the same thing. :)

Since your page is buried, what do you have to loose on Ink, then the rest of market?
Some people here never submit home pages.

Hope for you it gets better.

Hanging around Macguru so late this time --It's actually a business site & yeah I heard that not to submit the main page so u all suggest I submit the /...htm page --I'll think about it - won't want to waste my money.

Only if you want it to stand a chance ranking. Getting a listing in the free db is the same as not getting in at all...

I would work to get in the directories that at on top of the ink partner listings first before paying to be below the directory listings.

zechariah, you can also check the different keyword phrases at MSN and see which ones are loaded with directory listings and which have only a few. It's also competitive within the directory part. Some say those listings are based on title and description (which LookSmart can change at their discretion) and others say to optimize the page before the LS submission, which can't hurt to do. $299 is a LOT to spend if there are two or three pages of directory listings.

zechariah,

Keep in mind that because you can often have better control over a payed INK title you may rank higher on AOL for certain competitive searches (than a ODP listing may give you)and you can do well on MSN if your SERP's are not packed with looksmart listings.

Hunter, it seems like it's worth doing a couple of paid Ink pages ($45 for 2 as opposed to $299 for one with little control) for categories with just a few LS listings in MSN and compare how they do there and AOL. What's nice is the flexibility of being able to make alterations and see results in only a few days.

Zechariah, I second what Marcia has to say. Web page results on the less competitive keywords and phrases will not be buried under Directory listings on MSN, and can draw decent traffic. Make a couple pages, looking at the MSN SERPs for your keywords, and you'll get the hang of it.

AOL traffic to these pages should show up as a nice bonus, along with traffic from other Ink partners.

Position Technologies is offering some decent analysis/development tools to help move your page(s) up the ranks when you submit through them.
