I am in the DB but when i run a check for and of my keywords i dont show up?
I thought that HB based it ranking on the amount of click throughs a site gets.
If so how am I suppose to get the site in the results in the first place.
( i'm a HB rookie) :(
As you probably know Hotbot uses Direct Hit for its main results, and Ink for its secondary results and ranks them according to its own ranking algorithm.
Canada, Anzwers, Hotbot MSN, and AOL all use Inktomi's database...and if you perform a few searches, you will see that the rankings are somewhat similar at all of these engines...so you can learn quite a bit from cross-referencing...
HB seems to take DH's results and alter the ranking only mildly...Same as with Ink results...As you know, DH ranks based on clickthroughs...As for ink, if you browse around the ink forum you will learn a lot about what Ink likes...Links are important, themes, title, H tags, etc.
One suggestion to you would be to study the serps for your main keywords and look for trends.
Oh, if you are in the database but can't find your site by performing a keyword search, that means you're probably buried in the rankings...so you have to optimize your sites a bit more.
Good luck,

<added> oops...forgot to mention...Dmoz supplies hotbot with Directory results...thanks NFFC ;) </added>

There are numerous recent threads that cover Inktomi submission and inclusion in depth, with quite a bit of detail. Reading through all of them gives an excellent picture and strategy - I'm having to refer to those threads every few days, because I just started "studying" Inktomi.
>submitted a site to INK and Hotbot as well as Canada
Did you do a paid submit as well as free? From what I've read I will not do both on a site - I will choose one way or another.
Also, to do the free submit it is only necessary to submit to one partner. I choose to do free submit to Canada because I have a Canadian site coming up in a few months, so I'll need to dig out info on Canadian search engines - and I understand there are a number of them.
>I am in the DB
Here again, the information is in those threads. You are not dealing with one database, but several.
I won't go into lengthy detail just yet, there's a bit more I want to check out. But I have two new sites for which I did a free submit and then found it necessary to do the paid submit, which I wanted to try anyway.
Based on what I've seen in the last week, if the paid submission cost will be absorbed by clients, I will, without a doubt, go for the paid submit.
I also have noticed that having a site or page show up by URL, indicating inclusion in the database - which of the databases I need to find out how to determine - does not necessarily mean it will show up in a search for the targeted keywords or phrases.
The free submits did not - my paid indeed did, within a few days - both on a page of my own, and the index page of a now happy client.
I would suggest reading through all the threads pertaining to Inktomi submission, and after getting that down, do your analysis of how the results are ranked by the different partners.
As a side note, on the paid submit, MSN search was the first for which I found results. First, the page was included by URL, and found under a search a day or so later - I could be wrong, but I don't believe it's simultaneous - due, I believe, to there being more than one database and however the particular partner is extracting and integrating the data from them.
I have been reading the INK threads and have been learing a great deal.
I have tried the Paid Inclusion for 1 page.
I have found the site in in HB by searching for www.MYSITE.com and it show's up
I tried to search for the site useing the KW from the title/descp. and now i have found the site #25 for my main KW.
I think I have optm my site's homepage.
I guess now I'll have and see if it get's the ckick-throughs.
Thank you for the great info.

I think the quick appearance gives a good opportunity to make comparison with the sites that are above it and do some tweaking. Gone are the days when it's possible to do this with AV as a barometer - to me this is worth the minimal cost just for this aspect, especially with a brand new site. Oh, sure there are differences, but it's a good starting place.
Keep us posted, like if you make any changes and there's a shift.
