I heard that inktomi was penalizing for submitting to the inktomi based engines. Is this still going on?

From what I understand, if you submit through the free Add URL, the site is given a penalty. However, if their spider later 'finds' your site through a link on another site, the penalty is lifted.

I would gather the best way to "free submit" to inktomi now would be to get a listing in Yahoo or ODP, and then submit the Yahoo or ODP page your link is listed on. That way, you can get the URL to inktomi's attention fairly fast, but the spider still thinks it "found" the link by itself, so you don't get a penalty.

If you have any incoming links for other websites, by all means you can submit those pages too, but I think Yahoo and ODP links are more highly regarded.
