Was checking logs and following a refer from MSN to its out come and it wasn't there. So I ran the search again and it was there, ran it again and it wasn't there. No proof of this yet, but it looks like the paid listings only show up in half the searches. The sites that I know to be in the old database never went away on a new search, only the pages that I knew were paid (mine)went away on every other search.

If this pans out to be true the INK PTP deal will only deliver half the expected traffic.

Please check you listings and report back here as to what you think.

MSN just fired up a new database, maybe they are alternating the two. There was something about this on the members msn site. Can't find it now though. Sorry.

I'm getting the same exact thing in Hobot and MSN now as well. I was following up a referral in my logs and each time I do a refresh I get a different list. The page in question is a Pay-To-Include-Inktomi-Submission.

Now I know why I am getting bad hits from the two. It's like in the morning I receive a few hits all in one time period, then in the afternoon I get nothing.

Is there anyone seeing the same thing happen with their pages and/or the results in Hotbot and MSN?

Tried a few other searches under different keywords and getting the same thing.

Rotating results....hmmmmmm not good.

Try this link and hit your refresh button a few times. You should see a musicvideo.about.com site in the 21st position in one refresh and www.jeeran.com in another.

Very strange. I'm getting one stable result through 20 refreshes -- the about.com site.

I'm not ready to sign up for any conspiracy theories just yet. Could be a temporary condition -- a way of phasing in a refreshed index or, who knows what. But I sure will watch. I have lots of client $$$ on the line.

in a nutshell - they are pulling for 3 data sources. One, the free submit is buried - two the old database blends with the paid db to make up top results. It looks like everything in the old db stays put but the paid rotates. This is not completely confirmed but got it right from the horses mouth and it does look that way...

For what it is worth....

I have been getting pages picked up by Inktomi without submission recently. Over the past 96 hours a new URL appeared ranking high (not submitted - but picked up) and this URL appears and disappears in exactly the same way as you are discussing. As it was NOT paid for but obviously is in a 'newer' DB and is undergoing the same fluctuations, I don't think the 'conspiracy theory' is valid.
