and what are the know issues with the total pages in a site reports from MSN?

Yes, that's the correct syntax. Read our instructions for more information:

[search.msn.com...]

The number of pages indexed is a lower bound; various things can cause the reported number to be lower than the actual number. That is, if we say we have 1000 pages from your site, we might have more than that, but we definitely won't have fewer than 1000 pages. Also, the larger the number, the more likely it is to be an underestimate.

There are a variety of reasons why it's expensive to make this number precise. Given that, we had rather estimate on the conservative side.

You mean like offering a subscription to a tool that could help webmasters do a better job at SEO? (E.g. for query Q why is site S1 ranked above site S2?) Obviously we have tools like that which we use ourselves for testing and debugging purposes, but I wonder how many people would actually pay real money for access to such a thing.
