Microsoft unveils new enterprise search tools for businesses

Microsoft Corp. will unveil new tools on Wednesday that make it easier for office workers to share and locate information as the company seeks to fend off rivals such as Google Inc. in the enterprise software search market.

Windows Live Search, which will be available for free from Microsoft's Web site, allows users to search for documents stored on their computers, on departmental computer networks or out on the Internet and see the results in one place.

This is a wise move that's long overdue. The built-in tools in Windows and Office are slow and largely ineffective. And somehow I feel less threatened by installing a Microsoft tool to search my hard drive since I'm already running their software now. (That's probably not rational...)

It remains to be seen how good the MS tool is and whether computer users will think any MS search tool will perform as well as Google, whose name has become synonymous with that function.

Windows built-in search tool S*U*C*K*S, it's useless, and IMHO the worst software on my computer.

Try searching for a part of word in your files, for example. Even in text files. It just doesn't work.

M$ should've been looking into this few years back, so this is long overdue.

This is very timely move by microsoft to reduce influence of google in search market to some extent (at least for office workers).More importantly it must has to be of wonder class.
