Windows Live Beta Hotmail won't load in anything but IE6!

It only allows limited functionality, which means no functionality at all.

I received an invitation to join the MS Live Hotmail beta last night, and I did; but I couldn't load the pages properly in Opera or Firefox. What was even weirder is that the link from within the email wouldn't even work until I used IE to log into Hotmail.

Way to go Microsoft! :)

Yeah. Won't work on a MAC either...

I mean really, I don't know why they would release and promote something (even if only in beta) while not everyone would be able to view it.

Microsoft have really great talent, so there's no excuse for this. Furthermore, there should be no executive reason for this neither. People are't going to force themselves to use 1 browser or another just for a website, so they might as well cater for everyone!

I'd love to use it because it looks neat, but until it works in Safari, I won't!

The really sad thing was that the link they sent me in the invite to sign up for the beta wouldn't work in FF or Opera. The link! That is just crazy. I mean I am trying to use their product/service but can't because of incompatibility.

Windows Live Mail loads for me (and works) in Firefox, although it does not have all the features you see with IE7 or IE6.

To be fair to microsoft - its their product and lets be honest they will want you to be using IE6 with it - Not firefox

Anyway, the only reason for use of firefox is the extra functionality over IE, the new IE version has it all, so once its rolled out fully functional its bye bye firefox hello IE!

Microsoft have this one in the bag imo

Not really. Firefox has so many useful extensions that IE has a lot of catching up to do. Don't get me wrong I'd love it if IE could actually be as good as FF, or Opera, just for its speed during the initial load if nothing else; but I don't see IE7 giving FF or Opera a good fight.

As far as the new mail interface only working with IE because it is a Microsoft product is a silly contention, since you'd want as many people as possible using your service, whether they are using FF, Opera, or IE.
