We are currently getting the msnbot, 65.54.x.x, picking up pages within hours of them being online. I always found the googlebot very impressive, but this activity is on an order several times greater.
Perhaps Bill is using his vast resources, now thrown into search, to move ahead of G in freshness, (Google's big claim to fame).
I'll take the traffic wherever it comes from, so whatever...
I'm not sure exactly where the extra MSN traffic is coming from yet, (it can't be because more people are suddenly using MSN), but it seems widespread... (we usually get arrivals on over 50 kw combos a day from the various SE's and I haven't parsed things yet). The only thing I can figure is that MSN has found that we add new pages regularly, and is putting them high in their serps, or perhaps has shunted everything higher because it's a very active site. Sure as hell though, it's suddenly bringing in more hits than Y.
The msnbot is in testing period and the results of the crawling are not live.
Therefore your traffic coming from MSN is based on the crawled data by yahoo company.
That you get more and more traffic from the MSN portal is not difficult to investigate.
MSN is default page on every computer. Therefore average joe that doesn't change his homepage will always end up there. As well there are some bundles in UK/US (MSN broadband).
Last is that you will be taken to MSN search everytime you type an URL that is non existant.
Being a senior member and all of that, (shouldn't have posted so often), I should know what the MSN situation is... I just haven't payed much attention because it's been the low SE on the totem pole.
I'm going to start watching it, after the next expedition... (I'm back in the underground in a week, where there is no internet).
