8 days to list new pages - impressive!

MSN took exactly eight days to list a new set off pages i banged out last saturday, and i will keep a track of whether they crawl and update this quick with other sections that i released on Tuesday and on Friday.

Thought G would be first hands down - but they haven't budged - i'm impressed MSN.

Hi Caine, I have pages that are being listed after just one day and today the third day, they are showing up high in serps (2nd page for some strong keywords).

Just checked the pages that were created Tuesday and Friday last week are crawled and indexed on MSN and are listing at #1 - great stuff.

If MSN can update with such a level of rapid-ness they can tweak/re-tweak there algo into some serious comp for G.

Yes, but isn't there a downside for this speed Caine (other than people moaning about bandwidth?) - the downside being that it is much easier to also spam the index - at least in the short term?

Spam the index - it can't be that difficult to detect a new site with 1000s of copied pages and then not to let it in to serps - but if a new site, with a small amount of original content gets set up then that could go in serps immediately

why does google mess about with sandboxes ect

MSN is full of spam. Spam everywhere! The index is useless, drowned in a sea of spam.

I think it is a very bad thing that new pages can get into the index so quickly. It shows MSN do no quality checks and, basically, don't give a #*$!.

Bill can buy terrabits of bandwidth and more terrabits of storage but what MSN search needs is a bit of human intervention. That human factor has just vastly improved Google.

Remember Altavista in 1999? That is how MSN search will look in a few months if it doesn't do something similar to the purge Google has just completed.

The spammers who have been caught out by the Google update will become MSN specific and will drown MSN search in spammy crap.

The lack of quality in MSN search is capable of severely damaging the launch of the new Windows. Unless, of course, Microsoft lets users specify a search engine other than MSN.

Yah, MSN are putting lots of energy into blogs, must have a couple of hundred pages ranking top three. Not particularly competitive terms but against hubs and sites that have been around for a long time and with major BL’s.

Time to rank 1-3 days

Google is only slow because it is in the middle of Jagger etc

I can get new pages straight to #1 for a 2 word search, usually, in about 3 days.
I find G much quicker than MSN, also has more of my pages listed

i've had traffic from MSN within 24 hours of a site going live

most of my new sites / pages tend to rank quite high in MSN for a couple of weeks, then drops down a bit

Wow nice conversation going on this section of the MSN war. I am finding every engine starting to spider almost everyday it's crazy the results I am getting from all the engines.

I hope I am on the right track for my clients. They relay on me to provide best practice advice. I can say I have never attempted to spam any engine my goal is to provide these clients with the highest level of White hat SEO techniques that help gain traffic.

The search for my keywords produces sharp quality SERP in MSN, better than Yahoo. As for Google, SERP shows established, gorilla sites, but limited on-topic content. As a user, I use MSN.

IMHO, Google is not interested in webmaster's complaint. If any, it takes complaint to R&D its product and new products (eq. Google Print, G analytic, etc.). It is too busy to dominate internet and trying to set the rule of game.

Amid Jagger and Yahoo weather update, Bill Gates is watching, learning, and refuse to do update at the same time. I guess He knows what to be done following his own success with OS war.

I am happy if there will be stiff competition between G, Y, M and -who knows- other search engine with split traffic so that webmasters would have more choices.

Yeah, one can rank well in MSN with ols school optimization techniques that are passe in Google and Yahoo... metatags, h1 tags, on-page keywords, targeted urls. Some think this is why MSN sucks, but isn't this what used to work in Google during its metioric rise?

I have seen some extremely fast listings.

I even had a new domain show up within 24 hours of REGISTERING it. MSN is WAY ahead of the game on this. Some people swear G updates them just as fast - but in my experience Google is behind MSN, and even Y! in indexing new sites and pages.

I agree with you guys who say MSN is now faster, I have recently built a site and within one week it is showing up in the top 10. Now I just wish that MSN could drive more traffic to the site!

We posted a new site on Thursday Dec 1 2005, Mamma, MSN, Gigablast, Dogpile and Yahoo indexed us with the description of our new site in less than a week compared to (Google URL only)

I put my site live about 8 days ago and I am already fully indexed by msn :)

Yahoo had my homepage indexed in 2-3 days

Google typically takes 20 hours to add new pages for me.

Threads like this are meaningless. Some people get crawled better by one engine or another, big deal.
