Just installed MSN Messenger 7 and saw that there is a search button in messenger itself (at the bottom). Seems like one another way to push traffic to MSN search. One thing different (Which I noticed) was that it took me to local MSN search (and it had an option of "Only from mycountryname").

They can easily do this using ip address (I guess). But that does not happen if I directly go to MSN.com to search. So are they using MSN signup information (will have to think about it later).

And yes, one good feature (which they were long lacking) was the "login in Offline mode" option (Yahoo had it ages ago and one of the main reason I use it often).

They could well be using the MSN sign up information. They will certainly be using this data to help serve up PPC ads in the future.

Just an update. I never used to like MSN Today popup window which used to open in default (when you logged into MSN 6.0).

The New MSN Today popup window is totally second generation! I am seeing three Tabs -> MSN Today. This has headlines from Arts , Travel and Sports section (totally customised to my country settings).

Second Tab - > Hotmail. This shows me my last 10 email messages. There are 3 further sub options (Inbox, Compose and Refresh). There is a more options at the bottom. This means I can directly read my emails from this interface (No need to login into hotmail account).

Third Tab -> News. Real news taken from the country specific MSN.

Apart from these features, at the top right of window, I get to see MyCityName Temperature and weather forecast. These are linked to MSN Weather (which is in Flash).

And of course there is a search button below the weather (very prominent). Below the search box there is a Blank box (bottom right) which is labelled Advertisement.

Overall I see some very nice improvements :)
