We all know that live search has its problems and we need it to be better - We need a strong alternative. We have the experience to tell microsoft how to improve search IF they listen to us.
This thread is to discuss ideas. Please post them here.
I would also be interested in webmaster views regarding the "directory - paid site review" idea, if you are for or against this idea?. If we get enough support here msn could take the idea seriously. Its not the only solution to improving live search but it is one that could help.
An outline of the reasons For live to build a directory are as follows:-
Directory Idea Higlights:-
- Live search still suffers because they simply dont have any link or site history. They still dont know what authority sites are and struggle with filtering junk from their index. Both google and Yahoo have this historic data.
- Resources are wasted at msn on spidering and listing junk at the detriment of missing out good sites that should be included in their serps.
- If webmasters paid a directory review fee to list their site each year in an msn directory, msn would be building a data pool of verified sites that they know are "trusted" as msn staff would have hand reviewed and verified the site and could use this data information in their search results.
- junk, garbage and spam sites wouldnt pay for a review and if they did msn could exclude from this directory.
- These sites could get extra "trust" status in the serps as they would be verified.
- The link data from the sites listed in the directory would also be good data / site votes information for msn because in general good sites dont link to junk. (those that did could be removed from the directory at the next reveiw) Again this data would help live search.
This concept would give msn the data they are missing. Google results imo are only as good as they are because they use "page rank" and "trust Rank" as part of their algorythm and have a significant data set of what they know is quality on the net in the first place and have built out from this data.
msn meanwhile dont have this base data hence why their serps results are sprinkled with garbage rendering their search facilty next to useless all the time.
We have discussed and complained about msns search engine now for far to long and they still suffer from the same issues. I think if they got the base data right everything else could fall into place - anyone have any thoughts on this, they need help!
