Will there new search service suceed - what Algorithm-priorities will be instituted
Will
MSN/Looksmart continue thier relationship or will Looksmart
be left to die off as "RealNames" did last year after being dropped by MSN
There are several options:
- Either work only as a Search Engine and drop directory results from the site. Build its own PPC engine and drop overture as well. That way everything would be inhouse - the search engine (remeber MSNbot) & its own PPC engine.
- Keep the directory results (either buy LookSmart or simply renew the contract) and integrate it with its own search engine, just like Google/DMOZ relationship.
- Buy LS properties, skip its own MSNbot .... search engine, and use the combo of LS/Zeal/Wisenut/Grub. Wisenut could be used as its primary search engine, provided its ready to enter the market. Follow the Google/DMOZ relationship using Wisenut/LS.
- Buy Google and skip everything else ;) (probably)
- Buy Yahoo and its properties. (unlikely)
ROFLMAO :) (:
>Buy Google and skip everything else ;) (probably)
VERY unlikely, imho, imsh (In My Strong Hope).
MSN rarely developed something by their own (if ever) so i bet they'll buy something/someone and promote it as their own stuff. See DOS and and and ...
Thei either buy the weakly / poor or the stupid.
Fortunately google is none of the above.
the results on hotbot, positiontech or other Inktomi powered results are significantly different.
This may be a significant preview of how MSN search will "algorithmitize"
There are many examples of differences among MSN/INK and INK
However- when you are even SLIGHTLY removed from the first 20 listings - or even # 1 for a Keyphrase - the difference can be noticeable...
Take - FOR EXAMPLE the term "search engine optimization"
On MSN (which is reputed to be the third most used search service) you have to crawl through 270 looksmart "web directory" listings to find the INK "web pages" ...
When you do - you will notice a distinct difference in INK (pure) and MSN/INK - I choose this phrase becaues presumably any one who reaches the first two pages for that competative term "KNOWS" all the INs and OUTs...
I feel this would be an excellent term to analyze MSN's SERP algorithms...
and may offer a chance to be pro-active to prepare for the turnover...
you have to crawl through 270 looksmart "web directory" listings to find the INK "web pages" ...
Have you seen this on any phrases where you don't have to wade through so many listings... maybe just get your feet wet on a page or two of them?

Again, I've never seen a distinct difference, but it's been a long time since I've done that much wading.
All webpages in the index get updated everyday , I mean they re-index their current index everyday so they don't get left behind like sometimes Google does.
Great results, More results, efficient results, clear results.
Everyhing is automated. Even when you add a URL, it should include a service like GigaBlast or something , Instant Spidering!
More number of websites in the index, Google has 3 billion which I think is about 3/4th the web. This new Microsoft Product should have more than 5 million.
I want the web to move on to another great search engine because Google is getting old and all other search engine's aren't good as Google (I think).

Sid
Results 100,000 of 1,133,444 isnt a bit of waste of time. Google is the best search engine in the world, but even he two finds it hard to keep things relevant after results over 500 or so, the point?
I dont think its necessary to have that many URLs in the index, considering 99% is usually p0rn and the other .9% is mp3s.
competition is great, but lets hope they all keep the results relevant.
