Okay, I have some mixed feelings on the IE7 push coming up, so I thought I'd jot down my thoughts and see how the rest of the SEO community feels about it.

1. High priority? Really? It might just be a purist attitude, but a high priority update should only be used for mission critical stuff, like patching up gaping security holes. If it can be successfully argued that IE7 fixes enough problems that patching IE6 couldn't, then okay.
2. How many approximate boxes do we expect to get updated with IE7?
2a. How many will now have MSN as the default browser/homepage? :)
3. If it is a measurable effect, occuring in the 4th quarter, what type of overall % SE share increase is MSN likely to get?

Obviously, you all can see where I'm going with this. Will those ranking in MSN during the 4th quarter see a spike in traffic? I'll certainly be watching the stats closely.

Interesting point, however, I'm not sure they will be allowed to get away with a change like that without an options box. Just like toolbar and other software updates from other respectable companies, there's an option. How many folks will see, or react, to that option will be interesting.

If anyone wants to download it and see for him/herself, you can get Beta 3 here:

[microsoft.com...]

It's an easy install and, just as important, it's an easy uninstall if you don't want to keep it.

Try it -- you'll like it. :-)
