Am I going mad or have the beta team taken on board some of our previous gripes about the prominence of the advertising:

<snip>no specific searches please</snip>

The top ads are much clearer as adverts and then ones down the side also seem cleaner and simpler.

Whilst I still think they have too much advertising on the page for my liking... a definite improvement.

What can we expect next - improving serps (I think I see some improvement already - although at the expense of speed - the above search took 13 secs from the UK just now?)

They do seem nice and clean, although the font on the top ones is a but "blocklike" on my machine. The feel is not too dissimilar to the look and feel of office 2003 if I am not mistaken.

This is an interesting point. Some research that came out ion Sweden's SES was that about 75% of Google's click were not monetised by Google, whilst 75% of Yahoo's WERE monetised (and probably similar with MSN.

Do you think this might be part of the reason that Google is the undisputed king of search at the moment? I asked a room of 100 people yesterday to stick up their hands for a strwa poll of market share... They weren't techies... and the market domination of Google was much more significant than official stats suggested.

Dixon.

Definately cleaned up. I like the look a lot better now (the searches also... which seem to have improved quite a bit). One thing though, I think two ad links should be at the top instead of three and then maybe put four at the bottom instead to help cover the difference.
