How to get onto MSN.com and MSN.co.uk

I am playing catch up here.

In the old days to get a new website on MSN you needed a listing on Looksmart and Inktomi.

I now understand that neither of these now work.

So how do you get a listing on MSN (com and co.uk) for a new website.

What is the easiest solution?

MSN still uses Inktomi, and probably will for a while.

MSN actually uses Yahoo! Search Technology, which is a hybrid best of breed solution made up of Inktomi, AltaVista and Fast.

MSN does not take the full set of YST results but rather is a smaller subset. MSN announced in July that they would no longer be taking PFI pages from any source i.e. Inktomi Search Submit, Overture Site Match or Overture Site Match Xchange.

The only way to get into MSN now is to use the Yahoo! Free Submit (many links to this already posted) and wait. Building incoming links will speed up this process and of course, should be part of your online promotion strategy anyways.

Of course, when MSN releases their own spidering technology, you will need to make sure you are included in that index.

any ideas on timing for that?

I have heard "2004". But who knows. This could mean FY 2004.

There may be some slippage in that date if the index is not complete enough. I would suggest we would see a flurry of activity to build a core index prior to the switch occuring.

Make sure you are seeing the msnbot in your log files so you will be in their index whenever they do release it. They have taken down their beta version.
