Hello

Recently I found out that the reason why I'm not in yahoo anymore is because yahoo have got sensitive to any form of cross-linking, which I was doing, although not in massive ammounts. Now I discover that I'm not in msn either.
Who provides the msn search engine results?
Does anyone know how to get listed again?
I have now made sure I have no cross links between my sites whatsoever and really cleaned up my act.
Have people got back in these search engines after being dropped? If so, what is the best way forward for me.
Many thanks

Chris

MSN is powered by Yahoo, so you need to speak to them.

See if you are in the new (not yet released) version of MSN here [techpreview.search.msn.com] because any battle now on trying to get back into MSN through Yahoo is probably a big battle for a short term gain. I am not saying the new search is ready, but it is more or less indexed, so if you are in there you will be back in MSN soon enough I assume.

I don't understand the Yahoo/MSN connection. Three days ago I was number one on both. Now I'm still number one on Yahoo, but have disappeared from MSN completely.

Is this an omen? Does it mean I'm likely to disappear from Yahoo too, as soon as they catch up?

MSN is powered by Yahoo! Search Technology, as is Yahoo! However, MSN does put its own relevancy algorithm over results provided by Yahoo! Search Technology. Further, MSN does not take the entire index set from Yahoo!

PFI listings (via Inktomi, Site Match and Site Match Xchange) are not provided to MSN any more.

The deal is a legacy one from when Yahoo! purchased Inktomi. There is speculation (but I am yet to see any clear proof) that the index supplied to MSN is a subset of the index used at Yahoo! i.e. an older, smaller version.

With respect to your site being dropped, this is one of the problems that PFI does over come. It provides a form of "business" insurance that your site remains in the index (provided you conform to the guidelines) at least giving you a chance of obtaining traffic. No PFI means no business insurance.

Warren, thanks. That answers another question I had, too: why MSN would only show 6565 search results while Yahoo shows about 36,300 for the same search.

Thanks for the info. I just checked at the new msn index and i'm in there! :)
Now, more importantly, I have to figure a way back into yahoo..
maybe it will just take time. I have no crosslinking now at all, but thousands of inbound links. Hopefully they will recrawl my site and index me in the next month or so

many thanks for your help
