Microsoft Takes Down Necurs Botnet

Microsoft talks about the takedown of the Necurs botnet which is said to have infected over nine million computers.
It is said to have a domain generation algorithm registering and generating random domian names, with over six million predicted to be created and used over the next 25 months.

"We were then able to accurately predict over six million unique domains that would be created in the next 25 months," said today Tom Burt, Microsoft Vice President for Customer Security & Trust.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic, barely. Taking down a botnet is one thing, did they identify the individual(s) responsible by name? If not, they'll be back.

Hail the bot slayers! Would be better if there are actual convictions and jail time for the miscreants ... but the FIRST step is keeping the web a safe place to play and do business.

While this might sound humorous it truly is a hats off to those behind the scenes we never see who are working tirelessly to address this problem. Can you imagine what the web would be like if there WEREN'T ANY POLICEMEN out there?
