Start by talking to your subject matter experts. They know the field and should know where the best links will come from.

Make sure that the SMEs, when responding on subject matter forums or blogging are including links back to the site.

Credibility in the subject is necessary in order to gain valuable backlinks, it isn't a mechanical operation for a hired in technician.

Best hints are found by reading the threads here at WW that actually address these issues. :)

There is a LOT of discussion on this topic!

Also know that in today's environment few will actually share strategies that actually work in a public forum, but will discuss all the old ways over and over, most of which are not as successful as they once were.

Specific questions will usually get specific answers. Generalities will be treated that way as well.

Mods note, please follow the WebmasterWorld Terms of Service [webmasterworld.com] and Mission statement [webmasterworld.com]

There are so many outdated practices mentioned in this thread that it's worth noting that they are not recommended as current practice.

Read this about guest posting link building Guest Post Link Building 2017 - Should You Stick a Fork in It? [webmasterworld.com]
It's quite clear it's an outdated practice which was abused, and and does not help with SEO.

Read this about forum commenting spamming Link Building Mistakes of the Pros and Newbs [webmasterworld.com]

Those of you late to the party will realise that the outdated practices have not been working for some time, and simply going to a forum and commenting just doesn't work as it was spammed out long ago. Blog commenting isn't going to help either.
Low value links are simply that: low value.

Look for high value link opportunities. Aim high.

Engage when it makes sense. When you have something useful to share and is a benefit to the SITE you are posting it.

If you actively post less than stellar stuff just to get a link there will be little joy as a result as sites are more careful these days (due to the abuse).

More critically, most sites these days are NO FOLLOW links and there's no benefit to be had at all.

I never seek links, but I do get them simply because I have content others truly wish to share with THEIR users. (and I include sites like that Wiki thingie).

According to me Guest posting is the most effective link building strategy...content sharing, social bookmarking and Image sharing also doing well.try to get do-follow backlinks. for guest posting sites search with this keyword '' Guest posting sites for <Your site niche name>''.

@sasirdd ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but those are EXACTLY the kind of links that are generally devalued or ignored in the long run.

Any immediate benefit disappears very quickly and all one is left with is a lot of effort and nothing to show for it.

No matter how many times you do it.

However, you did note the one thing I have always said was necessary: DOFOLLOW links ... and those are hard to come by.

True.
It's a struggle, but I'm not sure people are listening, tangor. [webmasterworld.com...]

I agree about engagement having to make sense. The OP claims to have been employed as SEO rather than building his own site which is why I commented above that such engagement needs to be by subject matter experts.

If posts are on sites which are considered authoritive within the sector and are of interest and relevance then they will still have value even if they are NOFOLLOW as they will get followed by real people who matter. It all depends on where you post and the quality of your postings.

Your link will be removed (see TOS), but as regards <snip> ... do know that g and the other major search engines are very selective in what gets promoted (listed in serps) these days. The same holds true for tech and IT as well. The game has changed and you have to go with the flow ... Links in those areas are very difficult to get, much less "build".

"Backlinks," meaning sites that link to your site, are, for most search engines, the supreme ranking factor. So is getting more organic traffic.
So, here’s what you need to cover before jumping into link building:
1.Fix All Technical/UX Issues
2. Develop a Strong Site Architecture
3.Create Linkable Assets
4.Authority
5.Link Quality
6.Traffic

You kiddies know you can't CREATE backlinks. Right?

Best you can do is have content some (entity) would like to link TO.

The other aspect is cold calling and begging or (as others have done) paying for it.

Pick and choose ... me, I like having the content as I can control that 100% of the time.

YMMV

There are many different ways to create backlinks.
1. Guest Posting
2. Generating links from Competitor's backlinks
3. Blog commenting
4. Social media marketing

You can stay active on Reddit and Quora forums for discussions. These are 4 ways I am following for creating backlinks to my website. Still, the list is very long. Guest posting is a very effective technique for generating links.

Thank you.

@Angelbma ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!
@Olivia Smith ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

Only issue I take is "create back links" ... you aren't CREATING you are EMBEDDING or SOLICITING back links ... and that only can happen if the link you embed or solicit from does not do due diligence and remove same.

Also know that g in particular and many other search engines are deprecating (or outright ignoring) UGC where these activities are most prevalent.

That said, one can get "some" benefit over the short term for a whole lot of effort, even if cut and paste, but it will not last.

YMMV

A question regarding getting links from the same domain.
I can understand that it's better to diversify and try to get links from different domains.
But what is happening with the link juice if different pages of a strong domain send different links to different pages of your site? Is the link juice the same among all these pages?

I follow these methods to earn credible backlinks:
(a) Guest blogging - There are websites and blogsites that accept guest posts but the submitted article should be a well-researched post so that it adds value to the hosting website. Otherwise the purpose would be defeated.
(b) Commenting on fellow bloggers - Rather than with the aim of getting a backlink, I feel leaving an honest comment on an article that you enjoyed reading, will encourage the author.

@KumarAmit ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

These things, done responsibly, do have great benefit in the long run.

However, UGC does not have the clout it had 10-15 years ago so is not a be-all solution ... and doing too much of it can get you labeled as a scammer.

One of the essential things in creating backlinks is to set keywords for your website.
For optimizing a page for a specific keyword, you must edit these sections:
•Meta Title
•Meta Description
•H1 Title
•Text Content
•Images
For that, you will need to have a basic knowledge of HTML.
As you may know, Meta description is your page’s main description and Google uses it to learn more about the subject of the content inside that page. So, Meta Title uses a few words to tell Google about the topic, and the Meta Description expands it a bit more.
There are DO and DON'Ts in this matter. Like the fact that your Meta Title shouldn’t exceed 160 characters and meta title can't exceed 60 characters.
