Can you really trust SEOs who misspell "Optmization" in their TITLE

Doing a "Search Engine Optmization" on Google Yahoo Fast and MSN...

Noticed there were SEOs and Webmaster who misspelled on their SEO / Web Developement related-pages..

Unlike the:
WEB SITE -v- WEBSITE
or
E-COMMERCE -V- ECOMMERCE controversy - this is truly worrisome - when it is NOT done for special doorway pages or "Meta Keywords"...

These were errors!

But suprisingly, SERPs for "search engine optmization" ARE competative

BUT STILL --- HOW can ANYone who considers themself an SEO...?.?.?

competitive, yes. Brett and others have talked a fair bit about mining your logs for "keyword gold" - maybe that's what this firm has done. The average bloke or blokette is just trying to find something; if they misspell a word like "optimization" (and who can blame them?), there's no reason not to use that misspelling to your advantage.

Even if it is an error, spelling mistakes are the least troublesome problems found on a tour of SEO sites. It's stuff like "we'll submit your site to search engines once a month," "guaranteed 100 top 10 positions," and "meta tags are the most important step" that I'd watch out for.

'Developement' too. usa1, don't take it personally. Posters who comment on bad grammar or spelling ritually get pulled apart on WebmasterWorld when their own posts don't make the cut. Something about glass houses and stones comes to mind ...

They're optimizing to catch (potential) customers who can't spell (or can't type, if you want to be charitable about it). There's less competition for pages with misspellings, and a lot of searchers who can't spell well.

It's one of the oldest tricks in the book. Even I used to do that when I was a pro SEO.

I agree that we should all be focusing on typos, but *in addition* to the actual spellings - plural because you also need to consider 'optimisation'. Some of the results in the SERPs pointed out by usa1 aren't doing this though; they've just got the spelling wrong. I'm just making sure that Chicken Juggler means what I think Chicken Juggler means!

It's actually a better idea to use the mis-spellings (should that have a hyphen?) hidden in links to the page to count as anchor text. Or maybe they're doing that also, if they're really good SEOs. ;)
